CEREGHINOLOGY: February 2008

They are here again!! The Grammys!! For the last 24 years I've been having my own private party in my bedroom watching the show of what I consider the most important music event of the year.

On a Grammy night I'm not for anybody, I don't answer my phone, I don't go out...
I lock myself inside my bedroom and watch the whole show for about 3 consecutive hours.

I still remember how excited and happy I was on my first Grammy night back in 1984.
That was the night that my father gave me a Sony tape to record the show that was also broadcasted on the radio. For what I recall I think that was also the night that I become a music fanatic.
Later on, while watching this show on Peru's Channel 4 (America Television) I got so shocked when I first saw a woman singing like a man...

An even when Annie Lennox with Eurythmics and Boy George with Culture Club will not be present tomorrow night for the 50th edition, it seems that this one is not going to be the most exciting ceremony.

Amy Winehouse, whose visa was denied, will perform via sattelite from London and perhaps there is not going to be drama on the stage since she's been "ironically" on rehab.

The producers of the event are not really focusing the Grammy's 50th anniversary and that's definitely not a win-win situation for me.

I was hoping to watch a special edition celebrating the performances and music of the past winners. Something like watching Lauryn Hill joining Michael Jackson, Santana, Norah Jones, Eric Clapton and Don Henley on the stage. Or maybe hear the most important songs of the last 50 years performed by past winners of the Best New Artist category (Think Sade, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, Culture Club and Milli Vanilli singing these popular tunes. Ok, maybe not Milli Vanilli but I think you get the picture...)

There is going to be a Beatles segment that will incorporate the cast of Cirque du Soleil's "LOVE" show and performances of "A Day in the Life" and "Across the Universe" and that is something that I think is super cool.

For now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for a memorable show, something to embrace the importance of this awesome event.
